Monkey Quilt for a Little Girl

Pink and Purple Monkey Quilt

I was asked to make a full size quilt for a friend's granddaughter .  The theme was monkeys & hearts in pinks and purples. Love how it came out.

27 Years of T-Shirts

I have been teaching Adaptive Physical Education for over 27 years and in that time I have collected (horded) my work shirts!  I didn't want to throw them away, but I didn't want to wear them either. Every time I moved something in the closet another mound of shirts fell out....so.... that I turned them into a double sided T-Shirt Quilt. 50 shirts in all!!

 Lots of Great Memories!

New York City Board of Education, New York City Department of Education, Adaptive Physical Education, Special Olympics, Jump Rope for Heart,  PS 201Q,  Mighty Milers and Achilles Kids Shirts!

Making this quilt was challenging due to the two-sided nature. It was very hard lining up the front and the back of the quilt on the frame.  The bottom of the quilt is slightly off. It's not really noticeable when laying on the bed, but hanging is another story. Next time I do something like this I will take more time making the layers exact.  But since it wasn't a customer quilt I didn't.  Ha!
It also made for a very Heavy quilt.

Black, Red & White were the APE Programs colors at one time.

Sam's T-Shirt Quilt

Sam's T-Shirt Quilt

There were a few left over shirts and several over-sized shirts that I added to the back.  If I cut them the whole design would be ruined.

Combined Blocks- These shirts were combined from the fronts and backs of the shirts.

Disney T-Shirt Quilt

Michelle's Disney T-Shirt Quilt

My daughter and I have been going to Disney for years.  Over the years she has accumulated a vast number of Disney t-shirts.  She picked 20 + of her favorites.  Lots of memories here!  Loved making this!  Happy 23rd Birthday!

Laying out the small blocks....

Sweatshirt...  This sweatshirt was one of my daughter's favorites.  It had designs on the back, front and the sleeves. I removed the zipper and zigzagged stitched the center and added  the "Mickey" design from the sleeve.  I also stitched down the pockets.

Jacket Back

This shirt is one of her favorites!  LOL

Broadway!

Broadway and Concert T-Shirt Quilt

I was contacted by a customer to help her with her original T-Shirt Quilt.  Not sure where she had hers made, but she wasn't happy with it and I can understand why.  First off they cut off design elements. Look at Newsies (gray shirt) and the back of the "Rent" shirt.  NO Interfacing to support the shirts.   Really poor workmanship............ with a cheap price.

    "o day but toda"  Really???

I was given some new shirts and was asked if I could somehow incorporate the old ones.  I deconstructed the old quilt, but the size was really off.  So I ended up  combining several of the shirts: both pink shirts to make a larger "Beauty", Cinderella with the back of the shirt, Rent with the front and the back of the shirt, Billy Joel, Etc.

Added side borders with a few of the original shirts because they were cut really small.

Any of the shirts that had design elements missing I used on the back.
